I hate cowbirds. They lay eggs in other birds’ nests and then take off, letting their chicks crowd out (starve out and trample) the original ones and letting the substitute mother raise her cowbirds chicks. I once saw a warbler mother feeding a cowbird chick that was bigger than her (the substitute mother). Only the cowbird chick survived while all her warbler babies had died.
I had no idea that’s what that was and that’s what they do. You took all of the warm feelings out of this photo Anneli. 🙂
