The Toure-Raichel Collective was formed in 2008 after a chance meeting at an airport terminal in Berlin, Germany. Raichel and Touré forged a friendship and promised to perform together in concert. They were later joined by Israeli bassist Yossi Fine and Malian calabash player Souleymane Kane. According to Raichel, the group “recorded a mix of Malian rhythms mixed with Israeli melodies — all originals, but very influenced from both our cultures.” This spontaneous and improvised acoustic recording session lasted for three hours and marked the birth of The Touré-Raichel Collective.
The group’s debut album, The Tel Aviv Session, was released on March 27, 2012 and reached the number one spot on the iTunes World Music sales charts and peaked at number 2 on the Billboard World Music Chart. The album link can be found here.

I love the piano part, but it wouldn’t have been the same without the rest. It’s a whole package. Very nice.

I have this cd!! I can’t lay claim to the discovery – a friend of mine deserves that credit. They are so, so talented and what I particularly enjoy is that one can sense their enjoyment playing together..

Very slim…you and Lori introduce me to so many musicians I now enjoy. And yet, you called me a “sharpie” (which by definition is not very nice – cunning and sharp-edged), so I’m not really sure why I am still inclined to give you credit for having given me so much. Ok, I’ve got it figured out – I’m giving you credit but in a very shrill way…;-)

OMG. That’s not what I meant by Sharpie. 400 flattering words and you pick one and spin it. Shame on you munchkin.

Wow. My sister is the only person who used to call me ‘munchkin’. You got me in the heart with that one. All is forgiven. I retreat (and send you a hug for the memory).
