2000 Miles

The Pretenders originally released this song in the U.S. in 1983.  KT Tunstall said “this song is good enough not to be a Christmas Song.”  It is KT, it is.  One of my all-time, year around favorites. I’m sharing Coldplay’s rendition as the Youtube recording is of higher quality.  You can find KT’s spin on the tune at this link and a terrific solo version at this link

He’s gone, 2000 miles, Is very far. The snows falling down. It’s colder day by day. I miss you. The children were singing, He’ll be back at Christmas time. And these frozen and silent nights, Sometimes in a dream, You appear. Outside under the purple sky, Diamonds in the snow, Sparkle. Our hearts were singing, It felt like Christmas time. 2000 miles. Is very far through the snow, I’ll think of you Wherever you go. He’s gone, 2000 miles, Is very far. The snows falling down, It’s colder day by day. I miss you. I can hear people singing, It must be Christmas time. I hear people singing, It must be Christmas time.

  1. Great post David. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season.

  2. There is something gentler about Chris Martin’s version (though I love Chrissie)..it fits. ‘I think of you wherever you go…’ Am I looking for the hope that his love will return before the holidays? Probably – they don’t call me a sap for nothing. Loved this.
