Guess.What.Day.It.Is?

“Grammy-winning rapper and producer Swizz Beatz has spent millions of dollars on camels since setting out in 2020 to become the first American to own a racing team in Saudi Arabia. Now, he’s hoping the bet will pay off as he takes the Saudi Bronx, as his herd is called, to one of the world’s richest camel races in pursuit of a $21 million prize pot. Having worked with artists like DMX, Jay-Z, Kanye West and his wife, Alicia Keys, Beatz has been engaging with a different crowd in recent years: desert Bedouins, who domesticated camels thousands of years ago. As for the races, he says “it’s a very good investment if your teams are winning.”

  1. Well, speaking as an American whose heroes of any economy all died/out, if it isn’t Dennis Rodman doing the international weird-because-I-can, I guess it’s Swizz Beatz, (and Madonna, et al). It’s always embarrassing.

  2. Yes… I hope they take good care of the camels… But I’m guessing “not so much” given the prize money involved. They should stick to mechanical racing. The 2024 Dakar rally was run in January of this year through Saudi Arabia…an endurance race through the desert covering just short of 5000 miles! And the winner this year in a custom-made hybrid rally car was my favorite brand: Audi 🙂

        1. Don’t get me talking about sports cars, Dave. They are my passion. You might regret it 🙂

OK, rewind to the early 1980s. Paul lives in a small town in Vermont on a dirt road that climbs a steep hill to get to his house. Paul is in his early days of buying sports cars (there have been many over the years). Paul wants four-wheel-drive (actually all-wheel-drive) in order to get home on icy days. Paul does not want a pickup truck! So what are his all-wheel-drive car choices in the early 80s? #1 Subaru. #2 Audi. Subaru is not a sports car, but the Audi Quattro has recently been born and is dominating winning rally championships in Europe. Audi makes very sporty AWD sedans.

So Paul buys an Audi Quattro and never looks back. I have had a bunch of them over the past 40 years (only two purchased new as the darn things are expensive!). These days many cars are available in all wheel drive, but (in my humble opinion) nobody builds an all wheel drive system as well as Audi.

I checked out Google maps a few months back and I believe I found your house with two BMW SUVs in the driveway. Is that correct? If so, are you a diehard BMW fan?

          1. I’m an Audi fan too Paul. Just bought a SQ5 and both hubby and I are having a lot of fun driving it. He fell in love with Audi when he saw the rallies with the Quattros sailing over the hills.

  3. I know what day it is…. I just didn’t know the levels to which one will stoop for monetary gain. There is no end in sight for greed and the reach for the dollar.

Your knowledge is a mile wide DK. Topics all over. Enjoy that immensely about your blog.

  4. I have no complaints about BMWs! Most would choose a BMW over an Audi for “a more pure sports car”. The mighty BMW M3 has been a favorite in test reports for decades! For pure driving fun, most people would choose an M3 over an Audi S4. (I have owned four S4’s over the years.)

I learned to drive stick on a 1973 BMW 2002. If I had space I would love to have a restored 2002 among my toys… While I’m at it I’ll take an M3! Do you remember the 2002? They were great fun!

After this I will get off the subject of cars. I should test drive one of the newer Mercedes. They have come along way in the last several years. Used to be pure luxury, but they make some serious sports cars now.

My dream cars are Porsches… Enough said! 🙂

      1. PS: forgot to mention I have two BMW motorcycles in my garage. Wonderful machines. Haven’t ridden in a decade. I’m not as brave as I used to be! They are both beautiful. Immaculate under 5000 miles. But still no decent resale value.
