Black Friday has now reached Great Britain. Not good – fighting over material goods that will only give a fleeting high feeling. Not necessary. I have no money so will not go into debt for something I don’t really need. 😀
Thanks for sharing. Your thought reminds me of a passage in a book I’m reading:
In Svendsen’s view, modern man has tried to deal with boredom by treating the symptoms instead of the disease, by searching for “meaning surrogates”…instead of sitting still and, just possibly, contemplating what a meaningful life might be…
We’ve done “new” already, and usually found it wanting. Writes Svendsen, “Existential boredom . . . must fundamentally be understood on the basis of a concept of a dearth of accumulated experience. The problem is that we try to get beyond this boredom by piling on increasingly new and more potent sensations and impressions, instead of allowing ourselves to accumulate experience.” Yes, accumulated experience—that is precisely what an old person has available to him in abundance. The trick is to slow down enough that this accumulated experience can be contemplated and even, hopefully, savored.

An interesting thought and I must agree with it. I am going through a very tough time financially at the moment but you know what? it has been liberating. I don’t have any credit card debts. I live week to week with my money but I feel free. I don’t have anyone hounding me for money. I only buy what I need and focus on what I have. It is no use wanting something when you have no money. You are wasting energy on that instead of enjoying what you do have. Hope you understand what I am trying to say.
That is just so creepy! It’s like there’s a little monkey trapped in Gumby rubber, and someone is shoving quarters in his mouth! Stop the Madness! Free the Monkey!
