We’re going with it. All of it.

meryl-streep-1001-05

The quote, paired with Meryl Streep photographs, was erroneously attributed to Streep and has been going viral on the internet. The quote was written by Portuguese self-help author/life coach José Micard Teixeira. It’s not clear that this quote has any connection to Meryl Streep, but, we love the quote and we love Meryl, so we’re going with it…all of it.

“I no longer have patience for certain things, not because I’ve become arrogant, but simply because I reached a point in my life where I do not want to waste more time with what displeases me or hurts me. I have no patience for cynicism, excessive criticism and demands of any nature. I lost the will to please those who do not like me, to love those who do not love me and to smile at those who do not want to smile at me. I no longer spend a single minute on those who lie or want to manipulate. I decided not to coexist anymore with pretense, hypocrisy, dishonesty and cheap praise. I do not tolerate selective erudition nor academic arrogance. I do not adjust either to popular gossiping. I hate conflict and comparisons. I believe in a world of opposites and that’s why I avoid people with rigid and inflexible personalities. In friendship I dislike the lack of loyalty and betrayal. I do not get along with those who do not know how to give a compliment or a word of encouragement. Exaggerations bore me and I have difficulty accepting those who do not like animals. And on top of everything I have no patience for anyone who does not deserve my patience.”

      1. Oh that article is fantastic! but I’m going into decline because I don’t, in fact, love animals (despite being a vegetarian) and I feel slightly persecuted now.

  1. “… I reached a point in my life where I do not want to waste more time with what displeases me or hurts me.” That is pretty much me too. There came a point in my life where I fully realized how precious time is…and how little of it should be wasted on negativity and meanness. I’ve had enough of that in my life…and enough is enough. It does the world no good at all to be unkind, mean, disloyal, hurtful…to each other and to our fellow beings on this earth.

  2. I like this theme this week – finding joy and peace and ourselves in the middle and beyond! And no matter the source, the words and phrases are amazing. I go with all of it. A manifesto of sorts, worthy of our aspiration.

  3. i love this and love her. these seem to go together regardless of the origin of the words, as she strikes me as someone who believes and follows this mantra. and that is exactly the same place where i find myself at this point in my life, and i am much more at peace for that reason.

  4. I love Meryl Streep and I nod vigorously with each sentence of this quote. If she didn’t say it, I’ll believe she thought it. So all is right with the world.

  5. The Reprobate article made me laugh out loud! While I don’t want to be a cynic, I’m glad they’re out there for their entertainment value.

  6. Reblogged this on It Is What It Is and commented:
