Somewhere each day we have to fall in love with someone, something, some moment. Somehow each day we must allow the softening of the heart . Otherwise our hearts will move inevitably toward hardness. We will move toward cynicism, bitterness, fear and despair. That’s where most of the world is trapped and doesn’t even know it.
~ Richard Rohr, Radical Grace: Daily Meditations

It’s a practice for sure. But it leads to fullness and freedom 😊

I love this quote… and reminder to keep coming back to the heart. This increases our awareness and keeps ego mind in check. Your daily walks can be a conscious connection to your heart DK 💛

I like this – and the author has such a cheerful, positive expression. he seems untroubled by the daily worrying of the world. I do wonder about ppl who have no signs of ‘living’ on their faces. All those deep and worrying thoughts are surely searching for an outlet and that’s usually a face, isn’t it? But RR seems truly at peace. One could be jealous of such natural skin.

Yes!! Fall in love with moments, instead of waiting for the big event, the yin to your yang…be tickled by the gossiping birds in the morning, or the belly laugh from a funny moment, or the tender moment of quiet in your heart.

The moment I started reading this, I thought, “That’s got to be RR,” especially whereas Merton and John O’Donahue are no longer with us. Probably the future Catechism reprintings will not include RR in dedications, either — official tradition has a problem with contemplatives — but it’s alright: their content will remain. Thankfully!

I used to keep a journal in a tiny little book where I would write down at least one good thing that happened each day, no matter how small. When I looked back much later it made a happy book that made me smile to read it. I really should do that again.

Great idea Anneli. And with so many digital journal apps, this should be easy to do for me.

I have a tiny book for it, but I don’t see why a digital app wouldn’t work. It’s so fun to read it once in a while to remind myself of funny little things that happened or happy times, however small or insignificant they may have been at the time.

Entries being short, it’s easy to do and so rewarding to read later.

I’ve been keeping a gratitude journal for a good ten years or so. Five things I’m grateful for – smallest things to big things, it doesn’t matter, as long as I put five down. I do it before bed so my thoughts are happy and positive.

Wonderful! It’s the advice I sometimes give to friends who are feeling down. “Write down at least one good thing that happened today.”

Yeah, that’s my Dale 🙂 I would be hard pressed to write down 5 things although they happen each day, no doubt – but usually by the time I fall into my bed I’m too beaten to hold a pencil and write…. I do that at 3am or whenever I decide ‘as I can’’t sleep, I might as well do something which doesn’t cause noise’….

You know, you don’t have to wait till just before bed 😉 And sometimes, I’m just grateful there was coffee in my tin. Some days, I’m just grateful the next day is Friday…
