ease off.
if there is light
it will find
you.

I know you use them… I might have to cave in. I don’t really like taking the Sublinox my doc prescribed for me (though I’m not bad, I get 3 refills of 20 and they stretch out a year)

Wow, adding Bukowski (back) to my list of poets to (want to) read. I dismiss some who seem too harsh, too libidinous, or totally negative. Apparently, he’s not some of that, lol. You’ve redeemed Bukowski, DK!

I never heard of it. Thanks for pointing me to it. Love it!
there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I’m too tough for him,
I say, stay in there, I’m not going
to let anybody see
you.
there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I pour whiskey on him and inhale
cigarette smoke
and the whores and the bartenders
and the grocery clerks
never know that
he’s
in there.
there’s a bluebird in my heart that .
wants to get out.
but I’m too tough for him,.
I say,.
stay down, do you want to mess.
me up?.
you want to screw up the.
works?.
you want to blow my book sales in .
Europe?.
there’s a bluebird in my heart that.
wants to get out.
but I’m too clever, I only let him out.
at night sometimes.
when everybody’s asleep..
I say, I know that you’re there,.
so don’t be .
sad.
.
then I put him back,
but he’s singing a little
in there, I haven’t quite let him
die
and we sleep together like
that
with our
secret pact
and it’s nice enough to
make a man
weep, but I don’t
weep, do
you?

Fabulous, and Mimi knows whereof she speaks. She’s a beacon for me, and I’m quite certain I’m not alone…..

The quote is great but we met Bukowski several times in Germany but mostly in the US and that was the end of liking him. Master’s editor was a fan and provided us with Bukowski’s novels – well, not our cup of tea. Nevertheless, when we lived in New York City he was absolutely in. His fans were mostly upper middle class ladies who like his well perserved image of a down-and-outie.
Have a happy weekend
