But if anything will soften me, it is food: dumplings, apple pie, sweet tea. A huge silent relief that is stillness passes through me like sun, a warm tongue on the cub’s crown, the thought of being thought of. Breath becomes easy.

That looks so good. I think I will bake a pie for hubby. Yes, he would like that. Happy Sunday xo

HH and I ate at a lovely, always wonderful Italian ristorante – HH had their famous Tiramisu and we both closed the great meal with the best espresso in any French restaurant! HH would have happily shared a second portion with all of you!!!

Recurring experiences like this one, a restaurant of a small chain (I think of a total of 3-5 in the whole of F – and no, the Paris one doesn’t hold a candle to the one we go regularly), reconcile us with the lesser sides of France 🙂

Work day, yes!
July is as busy as Holiday season where I work. But hey, I’m off most of August. And so looking forward to it.

“The thought of being thought of.” The older we get, the more that means to us. This is your third or fourth recent quote from this book, so I looked it up. Wow, the reviews. And his history — wow, again! The book’s on my list!

Yes. I loved the book. Not for everyone but so many gems.

Why? Because we, the unprecedentedly blessed, rich, healthy, mindful, happy, were also world-historically dissociated, unconscious, and inert. If we were Sisyphus, then our rock was the self we lugged around.

You write that sometimes and I never know how you mean it! When I (with my UK English ‘education’ – ha ha) say that it’s always in astonishment OR in mockery. Then I think, ‘no, that’s not what he really means!’ Or Is It?!

Well, that is something…Hot cocoa, Apple pie and I think Caramel ice cream, dusted w/pwd sugar! I just ate 1/4 cup of an Island Creamery vanilla ice cream topped with a spoonful of Nectarine-Rhubarb(our garden) and Dark Cherry Jam he made yesterday! <<< Unreal such a medley…Now one more 1/4 cup of vanilla ice cream with 2 spoonfuls of Warm Blackberry(r garden), Blueberry and Tayberry(garden), Jam from the overflow jar while the other full jars are being water-bathed…and currently the temp is 71.6 and climbing to 85…glad NO More mid 90's for the next week…and the neighborhood is so quiet… PS he cuts Way back on the sugar amount by 2/3….

Each batch of jam – Eight precious jars of each flavor. added to the earlier strawberry rhubarb make 24 sparkly, yummy jam…plus the overflow remainder jars in the fridge…later they’ll might be spiced pear jam, fig, or apricot? I will miss the peach amaretto jam (peaches are expensive, I so love Peaches)…The sweet lady who grew the Concord Grapes passed away a year and half ago, so no more grape jam…She had a wonderful smile and such a distinctive voice…she always had her hair just so….we drive past the farm often – the husband took down all the apple trees but left the vines, unkempt…
