One week ago.
I read the title of this article in GQ.
Paused.
Then read the sub-title.
And stepped away.
I couldn’t bear to read anymore. (I couldn’t read more than the title and the subtitle.)
And I haven’t be able to scrape the words or images out of my mind since then.

Here it is: Elephants

  5. People who shoot game have enormous egos. Future generations will not have a chance to see the majesty of elephants, or any game who’s head looks good on a wall. Elephants feel so deeply, it’s almost killing another person. They stay in groups and it’s the senior females job to take them back to where the water is. It’s a high I can live without. I’ll go jump out of plane or go diving. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

        1. Hi. Thank you. I appreciate the kind words and the feedback. As to the music, great question. Some are shared with me by family and friends. Others come across subscription sites on Youtube. I have eclectic taste so I manage to find music I love across a number of sites and genres. Thanks again for sharing – you made my day.

  7. I did read the article, and it was interesting reporting. I don’t think the writer liked the idea of killing an elephant anymore than I do. What is so sad is that because of killings, both legal and illegal, the elephant may well become endangered.

Who shoots an elephant??? Someone heartless.

      1. I know it’s so difficult to read the words…and at one time, I would not, but I force myself to now. My feeling is that we need to face head-on what we as a species are capable of doing to see it for what it really is and to fight the horror in whatever little ways that we can. By not reading, by not looking, we shield ourselves from the evil which exists and by shielding ourselves, it makes it all less real. But it is real, and it is shameful that humans are capable of such heartless acts.

  11. This is a subject I care deeply about. I can almost (not quite) forgive those “important” people for going on their hunting (killing) safaris – even Queen Elizabeth used to go on them in her younger years – but surely we’ve become more educated and compassionate about our animals and nature since those early ignorant days.

      1. I know. I just look at the world news and wonder if 90% of the world’s population is still living as they did in the Dark Ages. Along with that comes that egomania that gives some killers of animals the misguided idea that their trophy builds them up. I think if they have to kill an animal for a trophy they’re sadly insecure, stupid, and unfeeling. I can’t imagine being good friends with anyone who would kill one of Africa’s Big Five. It’s not like they need the meat to survive. Despicable acts!

  15. I’m grateful that my computer couldn’t load the article very fast this morning. When I saw the title of the article, I stopped the download. Just can’t go there.

    Elephants are sacred to me—intelligent, loving, compassionate beings. I support as much anti-poaching activity as I can. And, of course, I keep a Pinterest board devoted to them.
