David – you are 8 oz away from your goal – a month early!!! WOOHOO!!!!! You successful rock star!!! I think I’m more A than B, and happily so.

Thanks Mimi. Afraid after yesterday’s gorging, it’s 1.8 away. Yoyo’ing.

Anything under five lbs is not yo-yoing…Water retention.

Hmmm. We’ll go with that. (Bit of cookie retention too!)

WMS, and David, buddy, she threw ya a bone with the whole ‘water retention’ thing…grab it with both hands, pal. Grab it with both hands….NEVER cop to the cookie…. 😉

Laughing. She did throw me a bone. However, we had another bad day yesterday I’m afraid. The bone should have hit me in the head (or better yet the mouth so I couldn’t keep filling it)

absolutely – empathetic covers it all.

Yes Beth. For some of us, this answer took longer to land on than it should have.

I’m a blend…..am I successfully unsuccessful? Your chart is much easier.

Circular and you have been twisted around.

cookie retention — you are funny
I am mostly A–but if I were a man I would resent the pic of the man in the unsuccessful group and the woman in the successful group–guess I am too sensitive to stuff like that–do not like stereotypes and this seems to be perpetuating something it probably did not mean to

Wow, I didn’t even pick that up. (Underlying pictures of man and woman) Great catch.

David: Thanks. Empathy does not come naturally to me. But like all learned behavior it can become habit. Lea has shown me this. Pete Dunbar 317.987.3973

Hi Pete. And my Susan has done the same. The Yin to the Yang. Have a good day.

I don’t buy it. I watched the banking crisis unfold, and most would argue those responsible for causing it are what society consider successful, yet I have seen little empathy from that community for the pain they inflicted on the rest of the world.

Well well well I loved the chart although have no idea about the recipe of success but the above mentioned characteristics of successful people are fantastic.
Loading...
🙂 agree.

I am definitely “A” but there are some “B” types out there…actually quite a few. Success for “B” types is defined quite differently than for “A” types. Its more of a selfish perspective and it does work for them but I would argue that “B” types like to control things not empower or share success with others.

Enna, interesting perspective. Thank you for sharing your insights.

There is no one person that I’ve met that is all “A” or all “B”. We’re just not built that simply. But I do understand empathy and how necessary it is. Or, as a mentor (buddha?) once put it to me: you’re born with two ears and one mouth so you should listen twice as much as you speak. – J.

Smiling. My sentiments and thoughts exactly Jeff. Thank you.

Love this!

🙂 Me too. Thanks Kristin.

Some of those characteristics kind of crack me up…like “say they keep a journal but really don’t.” Lol! Do people actually brag about keeping a journal when they really don’t? I guess an unsuccessful person does. I don’t keep a journal, so I’m unsuccessful on that one, although I have yet to go around telling people that I secretly keep one. Or “don’t know what they want to be”…I finally just say now, “I always wanted to be a mom,” and that takes care of that. I agree with lazarusdodge that we are all a bit of both, with some people having more empathetic qualities than others.

🙂 Carol, I’m with you and Jeff.

Great post – I plan to share with my college students who return to campus next week. Great to ponder at this juncture in their lives, and for all of us, every day! I didn’t catch the male/female figures in the graphics, either, until one of your readers pointed that out. Interesting!

Bonnie, I sent the same to my college students too!

Guess it depends on how success is defined. Empathy is a great goal–it is on my “to be” list. 🙂

Oh, come on Carolann. I suspect you are way down the empathy path.

I’m curious what made them choose female figure for successful person?
Because if they put a Man figure in the successful person box, you would have mercilessly pounced. 🙂
Nope, I will gladly let the man have it. 😛
