Top 20 reflections on 2013: A Blogger’s Retrospective

blogging,funny,

  • 2013 Regrets? Zero.
  • Take any 2013 posts back? No. (But I do grimace at a few.)
  • 2014 Goals (Resolutions)? None.  Marching forward headlong.
  • Blogging Challenges? Staying fresh. (Not good enough. This one feels tired. Who cares?)
  • Grateful for? Followers, Likes, Comments, Engagement, Community. Re-blogs.
  • Secret for finding High Quality Content? (1) Read. (2) A silent partner(s). (Thank you.)
  • Wish I Had More Time for? Reading and writing. (Especially Reading)
  • Few words leaving deep tracks? “Lately, I’ve been leaning toward kindness.” (Gillian Flynn)
  • Best blogging platform? WordPress. (Can it get any easier?)
  • Request for WordPress? Make customizing blog design easier. Enhance Search Function.
  • Best writing aids/apps? For me (an amateur): All a waste of time and money. Skip them.
  • #1 Blogging App? Evernote. For clipping, storing, saving, composing, everything.
  • Most useful Utility Apps? 1password. TextExpander. Snagit. Dropbox. Alfred.
  • Most critical Reading/Content apps? Feedly. Mr. Reader. Tumblr. Pocket.
  • Best blogs to follow? Authentic. High quality writing and/or content. Succinct.
  • Wish I knew how to? Photoshop images. Understand Adobe. (No time. Zero competency.)
  • Mac vs. PC? Mac/iPad/iPhone wins hands down. Syncing and stability worth price premium.
  • Google Chrome vs. Safari (for Mac Users)? Moved to Safari for integration/syncing.
  • Niggling Nuisances? Spam. Self-linking. Guest blogger requests unrelated to blog theme.
  • Why Blog? Why not?

  1. Drop box is great , need no hard drive back up. Have only one problem with wordpress. Every first letter of word in a post title is capitalized by default so for instance I cannot write “The Man Went to the Store” it will be all upper case for first letter to and the. They say I have to buy upgrade for that. That’s crazy. In your title reflections and on would have capital letters. Happy New Year.

    1. Hi Carl. I didn’t know that. I would have assume you could write blog title in lower case without customization. Good to know as it would have saved me considerable time trying to figure it out. Happy New Year!

  2. Loved this post! I’m now going to download your most useful app too! And yes, I wish it was easier to customize my blog on WordPress! Would be so great to make it more unique! Happy 2014!

  3. I’m so glad I met you. I receive gifts from you every time I read.

For example, I paused this comment to complete my download of Evernote, because you recommended it. I have to confess, though, I didn’t thoroughly read the user agreement there, even though they insisted I do so. Don’t tell them.

Thanks, David, for past, present, and future gifts.

    1. Awwww, thank you for the kind words Ann. (I don’t read user agreements either). Be sure to download the Evernote Clipper extension that hang on the Safari or Google Chrome menus. They are key. Have a great 2014 Ann. Dave

  4. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Thank you for all the information you have shared. Looking forward to hearing more great things from you in the future.

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  5. David, you have a great blog and you’re lucky to have a silent partner. You two obviously make a great team. What I’ve found sometimes is that non-bloggers have a hard time understanding the worth of blogging, so you are very lucky indeed to have that silent partner who seems to understand everything so well. For days now I haven’t been able to click on anyone’s “like” button, so I need to comment in order to let anyone know that I’ve visited their blog. Not sure what’s going on with that. Anyway, just keep on doing what you do so well. Love the new header! Wishing a wonderful new year to you.

    1. Thank you Carol. Yes, I can understand how some may not understand or support the efforts entailed in blogging. I am fortunate in this regard. Thank you for the kind words. Happy New Year to you and your family Carol.

  6. I agree with you about succinct high quality writing/content on blogs as, with the best will in the world, it’s impossible to spend ten minutes or so reading one person’s post at the expense of everyone else’s posts when there is so much brilliant stuff out there and not enough hours in the day to read as much as we’d like to.
(Now , that definitely wasn’t my most succinct sentence! )

  7. “Lead.Learn.Live” – David. I have come to consider your name as a synonym to your Blogs name. It has actually served us well and you have got a great Blog David (: Best Of Luck!
