Well, it’s not far down to paradise
At least it’s not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
And find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see, believe me…
Well, it’s not far back to sanity
At least it’s not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
And find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see, really, believe me
Sailing
Takes me away to where I’ve always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free
— Christopher Cross, from “Sailing” (1980)

You take me back 40+ years… listening to this song in high school and dreaming of the open waters. Silly- for years I thought “the canvas” was a cross-reference to painting. 🙂

Before I even scrolled down your post, I was singing the next lyrics – you can sail away, and find tranquility. Some words are really key to a song. One of my favourites. I couldn’t believe it when I read danieltampa’s comment, so I checked, and apparently it is even worse than I thought. The album with that song on it came out in 1979. 43 years ago! Now I feel old.

I had to wait for the song to end before commenting. Boy oh boy… Your image is absolutely gorgeous, David. NatGeo!! 😉 And that song transported me. How can it be possible that it came out a couple years before I graduated high school? I’d forgotten it and I thank you for bringing it back to all of us. Have a marvellous day!
