Monday Morning Wake-Up Call

There is Something about being out and about and walking @ Daybreak as light snow falls.

And in a city of ~130,000, not a single set of tracks on any of the footpaths.

Just fresh fallen snow, silence, and me.

The snow has quietness in it; no songs, no smells, no shouts or traffic. When I speak my own voice shocks me.” (Anne Sexton, All My Pretty Ones.)

DK @ Daybreak. 6:32 am, January 24, 2022. 25° F, feels like 15° F. Light Snow. Cove Island Park, Stamford, CT. More shots from this morning’s walk here.

  1. Love, love, love this, pal! The crystalline silence of a fresh snow, the satisfying ‘squeak’ of shoe against flakes, the world holding its breath as you revel in the envelope of solitude that elides life’s background chatter, if only briefly. Ahhhhh….

  2. Love this! Your posts, pictures, and quotes are inspiring me to wake up before dawn . Though
I have always been an early morning person but sometimes I do become lazy. Thank you for the motivation.

  3. Your photo looks like a special illustration to a story,…and both Sexton’s thoughts, and “The mind can go in a thousand directions, but on this beautiful path, I walk in peace. With each step, the wind blows. With each step, a flower blooms.” (Thich Nhat Hanh) are like the introductory part of the symphony. Your gift to all of us.
