Notes:
- Source: NatGeo: “If the Camel is fine, our life is fine. Somali Camel Herding in Jeopardy” Camels gather on the beach in the village of Xijiinle in northern Somaliland. The animals are at the heart Somali culture, and their lives are intimately tied to the pastoralists who tend them.

The article reflects a serious matter, but its title leaves me thinking I may have my new answer to, “How’ve you been?”🙂 (Isn’t it amazing to see cultures so very different?! I never realized how crucial camels are to so many lives until Caleb’s narrator, DK, came along!)

This story of “If the Camel is fine, our life is fine” brings to mind a beautiful film I recommend to all, “The Weeping Camel.” Seriously, I may forget the title but it’s a film I will never forget, maybe a National Geographic film. My heart has opened more just thinking about it.

You know it…take a closer look at the teenaged camels’ faces – those are the faces of beer-drinking, hashish-using, partying animals! (I recognize the signs and that look of “I just got caught in the act or thinking about it”!)

To Doug Thomas, Yes, that’s the story and the film. A friend insisted I see it years ago and I was so glad I did-heart-wrenching and absolutely full of wisdom. Thank you for sharing the link–hope someone else can enjoy this amazing film.

Were it not for a few critically placed adults, the teenaged camels would have torn up the beach in wild abandon.
