Saturday Morning

“The multiplication of our society’s demons has been accompanied by a ratcheting up of the sources and volume of its background noise. The chatter and diversions of our lives (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, texts . . .) serve to keep the demons at bay, even as we are creating demons faster than we can create noise to drown them out: environmental devastation, global warming, the growing gap between the rich and the poor, uncontrolled population growth, unlimited consumption held up by international media and most of our leaders as the glittering purpose of life. The appropriate response is not more noise. The appropriate response is more silence. To choose to be alone is to bait the trap, to create a space the demons cannot resist entering. And that’s the good news; the demons that enter can be named, written about, and tamed through the miracle of the healing word, the miracle of art, the miracle of silence.”

You’re giving me too much credit assuming I came up with this.
Samsung has the swipe method as a keyboard input option. You don’t tap on keys, you swipe tip of finger to make out the word. My keyboard made the wrong assumption here too.

  1. So beautiful.

For the past month, I have been creating daily what I’ve called my Sheltered Wonder Art Journal. I wanted to explore what Covid brought beyond sickness and death, fear and loss.

Covid brought silence. Deep. Meaningful. Exquisite, and sometimes painful, silence. It brought the opportunity to walk at a quieter pace, to speak more slowly, to act more thoughtfully, to be present in this moment more completely. To be still within the silence and the noise.

These are the lessons from these times I want to embrace. To carry with me. To hold as true to living a rich, fulfilled and compassionate life that does not seek its purpose in getting more out of life, but discovers it in giving more to enrich life on this planet we call home through everything I do. Everything I create. Everything I am.

Silence is golden … “And that’s the good news; the demons that enter can be named, written about, and tamed through the miracle of the healing word, the miracle of art, the miracle of silence.”

    1. It is Lori. All of it. I look forward to daybreak each morning, watching the fire on the horizon. Spectacular. It is a wonderful respite from the World…and I can’t wait for it each morning before the Day starts.

  3. I globally agree with all comments. Isn’t it interesting how we crave silence more than ever in a time we actually CAN and HAVE more of it? It is something I discussed lately with members of my family too.
You underlined it with the perfect photo of your early morning. We said to each other this morning: Isn’t it a grace to wake up to the chatter of so many birds instead of street noise? IT IS
