I stood there speechless for a long while,
then I entered it.
Such is art.
Notes:
- Art: “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer, Date Created: c. 1665, Physical Dimensions: 44.5 x 38.1 cm
- Quote via soracities
- Post inspired by: “The people who weep before my pictures are having the same religious experience I had when I painted them.” ~ Mark Rothko, from “ Conversations with Artists” by by Selden Rodman (Author) (Capricorn Books, 1961
- Mentalfloss.com – Researchers Discover New Details In Vermeer’s Girl With a Pearl Earring (May 2020)
- Post Title & Inspiration: Aldous Huxley: “It’s dark because you are trying too hard. Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly. Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply. Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them.”
Oh, I LOVE the Rothko quote. I confess being one to cry in front of such divine beauty.
Read the book, saw the film (several times), bought the DVD….

Sorry, also fascinated by John Peter Berger’s statement. Just checked him out and now I’d like to see the BBC talks he did. So many great minds I never heard of.

Yes, yes, yes! I remember the first time I saw Géricault’s ‘Raft of the Medusa.’ Cried like a baby. Art can shake you to your core…

Now this makes sense. And why you aren’t a fan of hyper realistic art and are moved by French Romantics. I’m so not surprised!!!!

Seeing the film may’ve ruined the painting for me! However, I’d have never looked at the painting, if not for the film. When that happens, I realize all over again that I never go deep enough. Imagine going into debt over precious gems for a painting to last the ages… did he know, I wonder.

That’s one thing I love about history! How documents and artwork are preserved for so long. This is one of the many things I found so abhorrent about ISIS – smashing so many historic monuments and artifacts.
