One surefire way to bring a smile to anyone’s face? Two words: Duck Parade…
Patients in the continuing care wing of the University of Rochester‘s Thompson Health hospital in Canandaigua, New York, were treated to just that last week. According to the hospital’s Facebook page, a mother duck parades her new ducklings through the hospital every year.
“Every year, without fail, a mama duck chooses one of the enclosed courtyards at our M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center to lay her eggs and take care of her babies.” “She lets us know when she’s ready to go by tapping on the glass, and this morning, it was time for this annual rite of spring.”
The duck follows the same path every year, and facility services staff use old signage to gently guide her and the ducklings through the halls.

I am smiling at the end of my day 🙂 🙂 :)…When my child was in middle school there was a pair of nesting Mallards in the enclosed science courtyard where the beautiful 40 year old pink dogwood bloomed…anticipation mounted every Spring as to when the duck family would need the doors to stay open and the students would line the hallway to watch them strut and waddle into the hallway and out the schools door toward the creek…the same creek that flows 600 ft from our home (we are near the headwaters)…though the school is several miles further down stream …the stream ends nearly 20 miles away were it joins a lake where water fowl is abundant…when the middle school was torn down a few years back I wondered what would happen to the Mallard couple and I mourned the loss of the once Vibrant dogwood that brightened by Spring for years…the flow of life blooms every Spring along the creek and I’m grateful for the perennial gift…Kindly, Christie ps I’m thankful to be reading your blog once again…

I work at a supportive living facility. We had a duck who did the same thing for years. We new she was ready when her babies started getting into mischief. They would love to float around in the dogs water bowl!

THIS is the kind of stories I like to ‘awake’ to!!!! I’ll even go as far as sending you a link to a Fb contribution I’ve received (in a private mail)…. I wouldn’t have you down as a softie (except for when dogs are involved) but that other story will make want to weep with gratitude for the being of kind people…. AND it happened in the US, that’s a bonus 🙂
