lest we would sift it down
into fractions, and facts
certainties
and what the soul is, also
I believe I will never quite know.
Though I play at the edges of knowing,
truly I know
our part is not knowing,
but looking, and touching, and loving,
which is the way I walked on,
softly,
through the pale-pink morning light.

There is a softness in the early morning, a sense that what’s past is past, the feeling that all is forgiven and you are granted a clean slate, an opportunity to enter the world afresh and be that person you want to be. I am sitting here letting the sounds of my new environs wash over me…a symphony of frogs and bird song that I don’t yet recognize, broken occasionally by the call of an owl, my old friend from the North. It’s as if he is gently reminding me that although much has changed, underlying constants remain, for which I am grateful. So important to celebrate life’s blessings, something that Ms. Oliver conveys so eloquently….
