Lightly Child, Lightly

In recent months I have become intent on seizing happiness:
to this end I applied various shades of blue…
I am trying to invent a new way of moving under my dress…
yet the thigh keeps quiet under nylon…
draw nearer my dear: never fear: the world spins
nightly toward its brightness and we are on it.

~ Carolyn “C.D.” Wright, from “Crescent,” Tremble: Poems

  1. sorry to add that this photo doesn’t indulge us as your usual combinations do, David. This is rather scary with those alongated fingers and doesn’t convey happiness.

      1. alright, you win….. the 2nd remark was for you to delete 😉
pls don’t take it badly; you just set the standards bar so impossibly high that I’m now disappointed if it’s not quite just the TOP OF TOPS, the cherry on the (written) cake, la cerise sur le gâteau…..
am I forgiven for being so straightforward? Mind you, I’m impossibly PC with people I don’t care for. And impossibly direct with those I adore 🙂

    I Will Wade Out

    i will wade out
till my thighs are steeped in burning flowers
I will take the sun in my mouth
and leap into the ripe air
                                           Alive
                                                     with closed eyes
    to dash against darkness
in the sleeping curves of my body
Shall enter fingers of smooth mastery
    with chasteness of sea-girls
                                                Will i complete the mystery
                                                of my flesh
    I will rise
                   After a thousand years
    lipping
    flowers
And set my teeth in the silver of the moon

      1. 😊
Its funny how I came across this poem yesterday. Someone posted a line from it and I had to find the rest of the poem it came from. Loved it!

Its Thursday, so the first thing I do is come see what ‘Lightly Child, Lightly’ has for me.

A thigh here, a thigh there, you know, loool

  3. This thin woman in the photo must be very tall, and yet her little fingers are abnormally short. That’s what happens when you don’t eat your Wheaties for breakfast.;-)
And why do people have to work so hard to be happy? Just be happy. Look for the good beyond your troubles.

  4. I was startled by those attenuated fingers…then thinking, I wonder if she’s musician….
I love Sawsan’s choice by ee cummings…ready to wade out.

  5. To me, Wright’s words…seem to speak of searching, seeking control, then recognizing that fear is not productive, contentment in knowing that the dawn will bring light for with out darkness we can’t recognize the gifting, brilliance of light & light’s illumination uncovers God’s miracles of our planets wonders…
