Lightly Child, Lightly

That was his most perfect idea of heaven’s happiness —
mine was rocking in a rustling green tree, with a west wind blowing
and bright, white clouds flitting rapidly above;
and not only larks, but throstles, and blackbirds,
and linnets and cuckoos pouring out music on every side…
close by great swells of long grass undulating in waves to the breeze;
and woods and sounding water,
and the whole world awake and wild with joy…”

~ Emily Brontë, from “Wuthering Heights

  1. Once again paired with the perfect image. (I really do restrict myself to my own photography and wonder why at times … though in that is its own creative challenge, I suppose.) And while she was nattering on, here comes the weekend! Flash!! 😀

  2. Love your offering and Emily Brontë, way with words ” … the whole world awake and wild with joy…” The next line reads..”He wanted all to lie in an ecstasy of peace; I wanted all to sparkle and dance in a glorious jubilee” /// I would say, The passion of life when one is in love…on a beautifully, breathtaking summer day…

  3. Wow. I just watched To Walk Invisible last night and realized that it has been a long time since I’ve read the Bronte sisters’ beautiful writing and now I’ve read your post and feel a firm nudge to reread their words. Thank you for the beautiful quote.
