Miracle. All of it.

A life: thousands and millions of pages to be filled; all the insects that one has encountered or crushed, every blade of grass one’s foot has brushed against, every tile and slate on the houses one has looked at, the tons of food that one has eaten, that one first had to buy, pound after pound, quart after quart. And the faces, and the smells, and the smiles, and the cries, and the gusts of wind, and the rains and the seasons perpetually returning … Imagine telling the story of one’s life simply by remembering the colors one has seen, just the colors, the colors one has loved, or studied, or neglected.

Violette LeDuc, La Bâtarde in Dalkey

Notes:

  • Violette LeDuc (1907-1972) was born in France. She was the illegitimate daughter of a servant girl, Berthe Leduc and André Debaralle, the son of a rich protestant family who subsequently refused to legitimize her. Violette spent most of her childhood suffering from poor self-esteem, exacerbated by her mother’s hostility and excessive protectiveness.

  1. This L&L post below is really loverly…esp when you consider the author’s tough life. Just the colors alone…loved, studied or neglected.

How’s your stay in the mountains?? All this warm weather inspired me to mop the floor which was really kinda stupid since it’s raining out and 28 feet use this floor!!! Had an early hike to Peak cemetery…hard to believe it’s 2 days before Christmas and I’m out in a light jacket and burning up.

I hope you and Miles have a delightful time together up here. We’re fixing a naan pizza tonight and watching the ASU bowl game…a cozy evening no doubt.

Hope to see you soon Clareeeeeeee…I have a couple little things for you and then we must decide when we’ll start The AW program. Ohhhh it’s gonna be fun. Best part…I’ll get to see you on occasion all through winter. That ought to get me thru the winter!

Love n Hugs from the land of muddy horsies.

btw…I went to K’s farm yesterday to see about getting some chicken photos. Here’s a work in progress. Man you gotta be real zen to shoot chickens!

  2. I felt a heaviness with each sentence. May our reflections bring understanding, acceptance and lightness in the surrender to what is in the past. Life is not about what we apply to the past And trying to make it seem profound and right. 💛

David, if ever you should find a photo of mine on flickr you could use for a post, I’d give you gladly permission to use – you always find the most amazing pairings of texts/poems & photos. I already meant to say that often, and also to congratulate you to your choice of posts. You are one brilliant person 🙂
