Grand Central Terminal. You choose: 1954 or Today?

Sunlight streams through the windows in the concourse at Grand Central Terminal in New York City in 1954.

The photo above was taken in 2014. Sunlight no longer streams through the windows as the construction of skyscrapers that surround the terminal now block the sun.  750,000 commuters pass through the terminal each day.

  1. Enlightening photos…the contrast light vs. lost..we are lost without the light, lost in the faster pace, perhaps rudderless? I notice such a disconnect among the people in the non light photo, it seems to me the people are driven by Time and the Weight of Responsibility…in the illuminating shaft of Light photo I assume people are checking the schedules though, I do notice Life, Ease and a Communion between the People.. /// I choose “Light of the World Shine On Me, Love Is the Answer…Shine on US ALLl…a ticket to Paradise”…lyrics by Todd Rungren, performed by England Dan and John Ford Coley

  2. I am so thankful that years ago our town or maybe it was the county instituted height /shadow cast rules for not blocking solar access to adjacent buildings, homes…this is for new construction as well as those adding additions to homes…
