Sunday Morning

To be on the level with the dust of the earth,

this is the mysterious virtue.

~ Marion Milner, A Life of One’s Own (1934)

Notes:

  • Inspired by another passage by Marion Milner:

I thought: this ‘inner fact’ – is it really so mystical? Isn’t it just the astonishing fact of being alive – but felt from the inside not looked at from the outside – and relating oneself to whatever it is?

  1. That is exactly how I felt when I recently hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and sat next to the Colorado River surrounded by stone, 1.8 billions years old. When you take your first step into the canyon, you pass all of human history geologically. It was comforting to feel simultaneously like a grain of sand and one with all matter and time. My ego was quieted by the relief of being so very small – nothing really.

  2. “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7
I watched this video last evening, by chance & then today I asked my husband if he has meet this man: https://youtu.be/2wzBPSbTGYM Fantastic Fungi: The Spirit of Good make sure turn on the speakers 🙂 “Fungi generates soil, that gives life” “The task that we face today is to understand the language of nature” Paul Stamets, Mycologist…My husband has heard him speak twice, the last time earlier this month, at a conference. My husband says that Mr Stamets is a genius and listening to him during his presentation is so amazing. He had a good conversation with Mr Stamets in the past. Mr. Stamets is so involved with the life giving, dirt, particles of dust and in learning the mystical language of nature….All life is such a gift, an absolute miracle and I as so grateful for life…
