I’m not screwing around. It’s time.

I think midlife is when the universe gently places her hands upon your shoulders, pulls you close, and whispers in your ear:

I’m not screwing around. It’s time. All of this pretending and performing – these coping mechanisms that you’ve developed to protect yourself from feeling inadequate and getting hurt – has to go.

Your armor is preventing you from growing into your gifts. I understand that you needed these protections when you were small. I understand that you believed your armor could help you secure all of the things you needed to feel worthy of love and belonging, but you’re still searching and you’re more lost than ever.

Time is growing short. There are unexplored adventures ahead of you. You can’t live the rest of your life worried about what other people think. You were born worthy of love and belonging. Courage and daring are coursing through you. You were made to live and love with your whole heart. It’s time to show up and be seen.”

~ Brené Brown, Living In the Questions

  1. We are all given the capability to grow and evolve. At some point it’s time to face the real world and commit to being ourselves … And not what we think we should be.
    Love this! Love Brene Brown!

  2. Wow. So strange to find this written just now. I was checking a N quote, one of my favorites too, as I wrote this below to post nowhere for no one. Then to read where you are from, how long ago, and now wondering about…
Similar. East Vancouver, long before that was cool. Montreal to ask questions. Asia. Building. Family. Children. Time. Women. Time. And again the questions. Always the damn questions. Tired. So tired.
Well, it’s 5:30am here and dawn is beginning to drown all newborn hopes, so I’ll quickly say: hello, thank you, I’ll come back. And let me show my bona fides by first admitting that the happy ending below is questionable and belongs merely to a darker hour “last night” 😉

Nếu bạn ko biết “Wong Kar Wai”, bạn ko biết tình yêu là gì. -To have made a film so beautiful, even once, would be more than enough to let us cross the river, “to joyfully add oneself, and cancel the count.”
But we disappointed ones, like characters in a film who always somehow missed our connection, our time – from the fear and shame of failure -, we have no such option. We have no coins to cover our eyes, no ferryman waits for us at the riverbank.
We must open our eyes day after day and count. And count. And dream of creating something beautiful, that we might then… Really?
-No. NO! Enough Rilke. Enough beautiful melancholy.

Eros (desire) is born of weakness, but sated in the “other” world? What a wicked sickness: “who needs art if you can have death?” Siddhartha, Socrates, Saul – all of them sick, tired of life, dreaming of resthomes.

Nothing is more wondrous than CREATING HERE NOW. Why? Wai?? I am, therefore I love: I love, therefore I am. Sum, ergo amo: amo, ergo sum :-*

    1. Lovely comment. I hung on: “We must open our eyes day after day and count. And count. And dream of creating something beautiful, that we might then”. Thank you for sharing.

She has a great 12-week online course. I did it this spring. Emotional, emotional, emotional. Based on her last two books Daring Greatly and Rising Strong. Great kickstart!
