Why does the sound of rain gently tapping on the roof and windows instantly relieve stress?
It is a reminder of survival, an appreciation for being safe, dry, and warm, the most basic of needs.
Therein lies a secret to contentment; to remind ourselves regularly of the satisfaction of our basic needs, to appreciate another moment of survival, and forget the extraneous factors that cause us undue stress.

I needed this today. Thank you.

Hi David, a lovely quote but it sends my heart out to those whose roof is the sky, far too many in the crazy world of ours.

Now that is true Jean. And with no heat.

Love the sound of rain, David. And yes, I always feel so much calmer when it does. However, there is a scientific reason – Negative ions –
‘Negative ions are odourless, tasteless, and invisible molecules that we inhale in abundance in certain environments. Think mountains, waterfalls, and beaches. Once they reach our bloodstream, negative ions are believed to produce biochemical reactions that increase levels of the mood chemical serotonin, helping to alleviate depression, relieve stress, and boost our daytime energy.’ (Courtesy of WebMD.)
Have I ‘dampened’ the mood, David…?
Let’s forget science, and allow romance to be key, instead.
I love the rain… ❤

Your comment led me to two thoughts…
1) Deep. (Thanks for sharing Carolyn)
2) The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder, or stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead. His eyes are closed.

Thank You, David…
I agree with Einstein’s thoughts, to a degree; though, with less and less now being ‘mysterious’ there is a need to accept the ‘awe’, standing raptured, but with the knowledge of reality tinging the outline. Doesn’t lessen the beauty, or minimise the effect. Just means we are not closing our eyes, but with a clearer vision can still enjoy all the wonders and possibilities inherent in this our wonderful world. Science does not preclude the ‘soul’ effect. It expands the vista even more. (It becomes even greater.)
I love the rain… ❤

It is strange how the sound of rain is liked so much, and also rain gifs on Tumblr I find are very popular – yet no sound at all! 🙂 Love this gif! The only thing about rain most of us don’t like – being caught out in it – without an umbrella! 😉
