And it occurs to me that
there is a proper balance between
not asking enough of oneself and
asking or expecting too much.
It may be that I set my sights too high
and so repeatedly end a day in depression.
Not easy to find the balance,
for if one does not have wild dreams of achievement,
there is no spur even to get the dishes washed.
One must think like a hero to behave like a merely decent human being.

It is hard to get the balance, a work in progress. 🙂

Ah, but yet we can be overly forgiving of ourselves too. Trying too hard in areas of comfort, and excusing the absence of effort in those areas which we choose not to even look at….hmmm?

Getting it right, that’s so hard. I say if in doubt aim too high, others would say it wasn’t high enough. What holds us back is our personal mental limit of what we believe we are capable of.

And, and in some cases pushing to that limit (obsessiveness) can lead to poor outcomes….

We find our peace in humility. Not that we think less of ourselves, but rather that we think of ourselves less.

When I first scrolled down from the banner, I was sure this post would be about anorexia. That young woman in the photograph makes me sad in so many ways.
