When you’re young, you think everything you do is disposable. You move from now to now, crumpling time in your hands, tossing it away. You’re your own speeding car. You think you can get rid of things, and people too — leave them behind. You don’t yet know about the habit they have, of coming back.
Time in dreams is frozen. You can never get away from where you’ve been.
~ Margaret Atwood, “The Blind Assassin”

I kept returning to the picture…the words, a more eloquent way of reminding us that youth is wasted on the young, their perception of its disposability..

Wonderful and true. We did live that way…like speeding cars, and it was fabulous.

Yes, lovely quote and photo. I thought Woodie Guthrie’s “ribbon of highway” when seeing that picture.

Love the photo, I’d like to travel that road the view is beautiful. I may never be able to run from but I’d have a good time trying, especially on that stretch of ribbon.

I admit to reading 60 pages of The Blind Assassin and then abandoning it on the grounds that it totally confused me and I got fed up with some character Atwood went on and on about for page after page, without me having the foggiest who she was.
But I like your chosen quote.

I hadn’t picked up the book and I’m glad that you gave me a heads up Sarah.

As ‘grown-ups’ we often wish that we could instill our knowledge in our own children. Thoughts like: ‘If only I could teach them what I know so that they don’t make the same mistakes I did.’ We forget that our journey is the reward. That we are who we are and where we are because of each and every choice we have made. To each their own journey… for it is the only method of truly becoming familiar with yourself, your abilities, your strengths. If things and people are left behind and then suddenly reappear, we were meant to meet again.

Amazing photo (perfect view to sit and contemplate for hours). I feel like to read this book “The Blind Assassin” though gave a second thought to it after reading Sarah’s comment but I think if I can digest “Great Expectations” I will surely enjoy it too. Hopefully!
