      1. Laughing. She did throw me a bone. However, we had another bad day yesterday I’m afraid. The bone should have hit me in the head (or better yet the mouth so I couldn’t keep filling it)

  2. cookie retention — you are funny
I am mostly A–but if I were a man I would resent the pic of the man in the unsuccessful group and the woman in the successful group–guess I am too sensitive to stuff like that–do not like stereotypes and this seems to be perpetuating something it probably did not mean to

  3. David: Thanks. Empathy does not come naturally to me. But like all learned behavior it can become habit. Lea has shown me this. Pete Dunbar 317.987.3973

  4. I don’t buy it. I watched the banking crisis unfold, and most would argue those responsible for causing it are what society consider successful, yet I have seen little empathy from that community for the pain they inflicted on the rest of the world.

  6. I am definitely “A” but there are some “B” types out there…actually quite a few. Success for “B” types is defined quite differently than for “A” types. Its more of a selfish perspective and it does work for them but I would argue that “B” types like to control things not empower or share success with others.

  7. There is no one person that I’ve met that is all “A” or all “B”. We’re just not built that simply. But I do understand empathy and how necessary it is. Or, as a mentor (buddha?) once put it to me: you’re born with two ears and one mouth so you should listen twice as much as you speak. – J.

  8. Some of those characteristics kind of crack me up…like “say they keep a journal but really don’t.” Lol! Do people actually brag about keeping a journal when they really don’t? I guess an unsuccessful person does. I don’t keep a journal, so I’m unsuccessful on that one, although I have yet to go around telling people that I secretly keep one. Or “don’t know what they want to be”…I finally just say now, “I always wanted to be a mom,” and that takes care of that. I agree with lazarusdodge that we are all a bit of both, with some people having more empathetic qualities than others.

  9. Great post – I plan to share with my college students who return to campus next week. Great to ponder at this juncture in their lives, and for all of us, every day! I didn’t catch the male/female figures in the graphics, either, until one of your readers pointed that out. Interesting!

      1. talk about people..focus less on real issues and always who said what..Hoard information..not all information is given..their policy makes and turns story as per their viewer’s demand.Secretly wish other’s fail ..they want to scoop and get take all credit :)think they know it all..when someone wants to clarify..thy cut them short..watch Tv :)…they always criticize as if..that makes them virtuous.can you notice these traits in news channels ..I do..when they keep on changing perspectives …seldom do they report without biased/opinionated info. I will not name any..as this is a public forum..but I find news to be more of a propaganda.
