Linda's Son Standing in Mono Lake

Good Wednesday morning. Linda @ A Nature Mom took this photo of her son at Mono Lake, Eastern Sierra California.  So much seems to have happened since my last hump day post.  Children are on my mind and this wonderful, peaceful (and safe) photo resonated with me.  Be sure to check out Linda’s blog and her photos – wonderful, heartwarming images.

And now on to my selection of the inspiring posts of the week from my favorite bloggers:

Tony Caselli with his moving post  A Night of Long HugsThe house is quiet…On a day like today, with the tragic shooting in Connecticut, I felt fortunate to be rehearsing a play about love, and the power of family and kindness. I got home from rehearsal just before bedtime, and hugged my wife. My daughter came out in her pajamas and gave me a big, long hug, saying “I love you Dad”…10 minutes later, sitting with my 12-year old as he was about to read himself to sleep, we quietly discussed how sad those families in Connecticut must be right now. After we sat for a minute in silence he looked at me. “When I grow up and become a psychologist”, he said, “I hope I can help someone to not do stuff like that.” I hugged him close. “I think that’d be a pretty great thing, buddy.” And now I lay in bed, and I listen to the quiet of the house.” Read entire post at this link.

Ray @ A Simple, Village Undertaker with his post The Rules.  This may be Ray’s Post of the Year.  If you are a Father with Daughter (and I am), this post is for you.  Ray shares 9 Rules For Dating His Daughters.  LOVED THIS.  Here’s Rule #6: Rule Six: I have no doubt you are a popular fellow, with many opportunities to date other girls. This is fine with me as long as it is okay with my daughter. Otherwise, once you have gone out with my little girl, you will continue to date no one but her until she is finished with you. If she cries, you will cry.  Read more @ this link.  And be sure to read the comments and click through on “the form.”

Jetta @ The Radical Uprise with her post 7 Ways to Kick This Week’s A**:  If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way. Thank you, Napoleon Hill…We each have the ability to make an impact on this world. Your positive attitude could be just what someone needs on a bad day. Your kindness may be worth more than you will ever know. You may not be able to turn water into wine, but you have a power that may be greater than that.  Read more @ this link.

Callmeshebear with her Freshly Pressed post My Life Plan B (or what to do when life doesn’t go as planned): “I’m sick and tired of complaining. I do have many good things going on in my life that I am happy about, planned or not…I figure that instead of fighting this, and holding tight to my plans, the only thing I can do is let go and come up with something different. So what’s my new plan? “My Life, Plan B” is not a plan at all. It’s more of an intention. It’s an intention to let go of the tight grip on my big expectations, take things one day at a time, do what’s in front of me to the best of my ability, and trust that the blur coming up for me on the horizon will become clear to me and worthwhile when I get there. I’ll let you know how it goes. (Read more at this link.)

And here’s a lovely shot she took of her children in a post she calls Random Happiness…an excerpt from this post: “We didn’t stay at the lake very long because it was cold. I think we were there for only about twenty minutes, but it was twenty minutes of pure quality time together, laughing, chatting and having fun on the cold shore of Lake Ontario. On the drive home, my daughter said “I like it when you’re happy Mommy”. I like it too.”  Happy children with a Happy Mommy.  Magic.

Have a great Hump Day…

  1. Thank you again for the recognition. My stats agree with you…most read post of the year and no doubt it will climb higher today because of you. And if anyone needs to “borrow” the crematory for any non-compliant boys…you know where to find me.

  4. Love those rules! I can hear my husband’s voice in every one of them. We don’t own a crematory or have 5 acres but the backyard is large enough…

  6. Thank you, David, for including my photo with this wonderful list of inspirational blog posts. This photo of my son in Mono Lake is the one we have on our computer screen saver… I can’t be reminded of the peace and beauty of that moment enough. 🙂
