- Each morning. Up at 6am.
- Grabs newspaper.
- Runs like a crazy man thundering up the stairs.
- Arrives. Applies his 4-wheel brakes. Sits proudly. Tail swishing wildly back and forth.
- “Here’s your paper Dad!”
“A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things-a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty.”

Good luck with that John…not sure you’d have much of a paper left after a cat is through with it. 🙂

Yes, “most” of the time it arrives slobber free and mangle-free.

This is great! My dog, Ruby, brings me my slippers, but I haven’t taught her how to bring the paper. Beautiful photo of Zeke.

Thanks Anneli. Susan kept sticking it in his mouth and guiding him up to the attic. Then, immediately giving him a treat. It didn’t take long for him to figure out the cause and affect. Now whenever he sees a newspaper, he cries and wants it.

Ha ha! Now you just have to teach him to read!

My husband is going to love this picture because he had a pup just like Zeke when he was growing up and still mentions Ruffy today as the best dog he ever had. Now our Boston Bella love to get the paper but by the time John gets it from her it is in shreds. He will be so jealous of you.

Smiling. And how can you scold a dog for mangling the paper when he/she brings it too you. Impossible!

My dog Lad liked to bring in the paper too. Ours or anybody else’s. ;^)
He’s gone 4 years now and I miss him ever day. Its a nasty trick that we live so long and dogs do not.

Vizsla? We had a Weimaraner who we adored (who would not only get the paper from the driveway, but he’d get us a beer out of the fridge!), and we’ve heard wonderful things about Vizslas, who seem to have a similar demeanor. Easily trained, but they need a lot of attention!. 🙂

Jenny, he certainly is a Vizsla and does need a lot of attention. 1.5 hours of walks a day. And a velcro dog by anyone’s definition. When people say they want a Vizsla, we throw up the caution flag and tell them that unless they are prepared to exercise him/her, don’t bother. You’d be doing the animal a disservice. As to easily trained, anything for food. But he refuses to retrieve a ball. 🙂

Susan trained him well. He must get a good treat for that.

Laughing. Yes, it certainly wasn’t me (doing the training) or much of anything else for that matter.
