Lest we forget…

Remembrance Day, November 11, Veterans Day

In a tribute to our Veterans on Veterans Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in Canada, here is Eva Cassidy with her beautiful and moving rendition of Danny Boy.

…But when ye come and all the roses falling,
And I am dead, as dead I well may be,
Go out and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.

And I will hear tho’ soft your tread above me,
And then my grave will warm and sweeter be.
For you shall bend and tell me that you love me,
And I will sleep in peace until you come to me.

  2. I remember selling paper poppies when I was a Girl Scout. My girl friends and I gathered early in the morning to pick up our poppies
and can for money. I lived in a small town and we hit all the businesses and people on the streets. We would break for lunch and then rush back out. It was fun and we always competed to see who could sell the most. BUT we never forgot why we were selling poppies.

  5. Can’t listen to Eva Cassidy just yet – long story – though I love her talent, her music, her heart infusing each note. And having had Matt around a lot this weekend (with my sister in town), we had the chance to toast his service on Friday night. And then I raised my glass and said, “and this one is because you made it home with your body and your soul”. My boy, my baby boy – it’s hard to believe it’s been seven years since he returned from Baghdad. How his eyes can giggle like they used to, though a part of him remains walled off to most. For all those honorable, heroic, amazing, awesome men and women, your post is wonderful

  8. Beautiful, achingly beautiful. I have always loved this song, and Eva Cassidy really does it justice. I also say a prayer of thanks as we approach this day, as my baby brother is active duty Air Force and has managed to come home for tours in Iraq and Afghanistan whole. I am forever grateful–for the sacrifices that he and SO MANY OTHERS have made for family and country…

    • I know how much you love Eva Cassidy Lori. I figured this rendition would hit home with you. I had no idea you had a brother in active duty which makes this hit closer to home. All the best to your brother, his family and yours.
