  10. I put on my favourite jumper when I first got dressed today, but have had to take it off as it’s too hot and sunny — end of September, UK? What’s going on with the climate? Yesterday it was three layers of clothes, all the windows shut, and raining stair-rods outside. SMH

    • Wow, Global Warming in the UK…for a day. “Raining stair-rods” – I’ve never heard that expression. LIKE it. Had to look it up: (“Raining very heavily. This is a colloquial North of England expression. Stair-rods are the metal rods that hold stair-carpets in place on each step. The allusion is to rain which is so heavy as to appear like falling stair-rods.”)
