T.G.I.F.: It’s been a long week
Just for a little while
Just for a little while, stop thinking about all the problems, crises, tasks. everything that’s pulling and pushing on us. Be in that quiet space. After all these years, some of us still need permission to let go.

Si Says…Chill
Yes, I watch Duck Dynasty. My guilty pleasure. It is on A&E channel RIGHT NOW. ”Duck Dynasty broke records in its third season. It is the second most watched television series behind “The Walking Dead.” In the 18-49 demographic, “Duck Dynasty” had a 4.3 rating, beating “American Idol,” which had a 3.2 rating.” (Over 8,000,000 viewers watched the season premiere.)
“Duck Dynasty is a reality (comedy) television series on A&E. It shows the lives of the Robertson family, who became wealthy from their family-operated business, Duck Commander, operated in West Monroe, Louisiana, which makes products for duck hunters, primarily the duck call named Duck Commander. The Robertson men, brothers Phil and Si, and Phil’s sons Jase, Willie, and Jep, are known for their long, flowing beards. The business began in a dilapidated family shed, where Phil Robertson spent 25 years making duck calls from Louisiana cedar trees. His son Willie is now the CEO of the company.”

On How to Feel Better
T.G.I.F.: Feelin’ like…
Wake up with the sunrise. And chill. In Tortolla, British Virgin Islands. Right now. (I wish)
“I also painted a study of a seascape, nothing but a bit of sand, sea, sky, grey and lonely—sometimes I feel a need for that silence—where there’s nothing but the grey sea—with an occasional seabird. But otherwise, no other voice than the murmur of the waves.”

Everyone needs one after a long week…
Sunday afternoons…
“The way my Sunday afternoons go, I end up doing a little bit of various things, none very well. It’s a struggle to concentrate on any one thing. This particular day, everything seems to be going right. I think, Today I’ll read this book, listen to these records, answer these letters. Today, for sure, I’ll clean out my desk drawers, run errands, wash the car for once. But two o’clock rolls around, three o’clock rolls around, gradually dusk comes on, and all my plans are blown. I haven’t done a thing; I’ve been lying around on the sofa the whole day, same as always.”
Murakami is one of my favorite authors (Kafka on the Shore; The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle; Norwegian Wood). In addition to being an award winning and prolific writer, he’s a marathoner and triathlete. If he lands here on Sunday afternoons, I’m good.

The Ocean is the most elemental…
The three great elemental sounds in nature are the sound of rain, the sound of wind in a primeval wood, and the sound of outer ocean on a beach. I have heard them all, and of the three elemental voices, that of ocean is the most awesome, beautiful and varied.

Easing into Friday Night with Céu & Herbie
We all know the legendary Herbie Hancock. Céu is a Brazilian singer-songwriter. “Céu reached unprecedented chart numbers for a Brazilian female artist—1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers (New Artist) Chart, 57 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 1 on Billboard’s World Music charts. In 2008, Céu received a Grammy nomination for “Best Contemporary World Music Album” of 2007 for her debut album Céu.“

Friday night with Andrea…
We were introduced to Andrea Bocelli at a concert in Miami. Now the American Airlines Arena isn’t a night with Andrea in Tuscany…but the evening was memorable nonetheless. There are those that perform – and then there is Andrea Bocelli. A man in a league of his own. Several weeks later, I recall driving over the Miami causeway out to Key Biscayne. It was a blistering summer, Sunday afternoon. The sun roof was open. There was acqua blue velvet water glistening all around me. Warm tropical winds rushing through the car. And Andrea belting out this song. Andrea and me on Key Biscayne…fantasy island.

Breathe in…
Years ago, I attended a conference at Dana Point, CA and ran on a beach that looked strikingly similar to this photo. I was listening to “Chill” music provided by the hotel. I don’t remember much about the conference. But, this image of the ocean, the waves crashing on the shoreline, the overcast skies, and this song remain indelibly present with me.
Here’s Rachel Lloyd singing “Breather 2000” from the album called Chill – Dana Point.
