From the Deck of SS Kanigan Enterprise…

story, power outage

CAPTAIN’S LOG.
Stardate:  October 29, 2012. 7:53pm.

Winds howling.
Sandy not relenting.

Ship steady.
Intact.
No damage to Enterprise.

All men.
And beast accounted for.
No loss of life.
Or limb.

Lights flicker.
And out.
Internet whirls to a halt.
Apocalypse? A whisker away.

Darkness.
Look out Starport.
No visible planets with light.

Silence.
Candles lit.
Calm sets in.
Zeke nestled up tight.

Trick or treat?
When will there be light?

  1. Probably the only circumstances in which I might consider nestling with a dog. Or any other pet. Fish excluded.
Thoughts and prayers are with you.

  2. I’ve been watching safely from my lounge room on the Oz tv… we have a number of stations giving regular updates. A couple of stations had total coverage for a number of hours today, so we have a good appreciation of the conditions…
I love your attitude, David…. When you read this, SS Kanigan Enterprise will (hopefully) have seen the worst over….

  3. Hopefully soon the monster will evaporate! I’d enjoy the dark silence, if I were you… I’m sure it won’t last very long and it’s pleasant -at least for a short while! I hope everyone’s safe and unharmed… [meteorologists here say that by Wednesday the latest, Sandy’s gonna be history]

    1. I bet you escaped unscathed way up north. I would say we largely did too as it passed south. Yet, falling trees make high winds here a recipe for protracted power outages. And here we sit again, without power for the 4x in 2 years…:) And yes, it could be so much worse and it is for many unfortunates in the Tri-State area and the eastern seaboard. Glad you were spared.

      1. We did lose power – but – it was restored by this afternoon. Given all the carnage from this awful storm, I’d say we got off easy..I’m grateful, really.
